Go Back To The Basics

Most people learn a topic to some end, like a test or quiz, and what’s left after just a week is superficial knowledge of terms by name, but not by meaning.

You understand almost nothing truly. You might have knowledge within certain contexts, but you lack foundations. Skipping the basics in favor of the advanced is exciting and feels impressive to us and others, but you’ll have gaps in your understanding.

Anytime you’ve heard someone speak on a subject coherently, it’s because they have understanding. Their thoughts are clear–not some echo of society–predicated upon experience, deep research, or the both.

Revisit exercise, language, math, history. You might have a complex workout routine in the gym, but how well can you do basic bodyweight exercises? You can solve an integral but would fail math from years prior. Foundations are imperative — nail them and everything becomes easier.

The world has more for you to understand than the brain can hold. Don’t try to understand everything, rather recognize your capacity for information. Be unforgiving with what topics you pursue, motivated only by what you are interested in now.
