An old story describes Socrates being brought to a market full of luxuries and goods, and remarking that there are so many things here I do not want.
Desire can otherwise be defined as suffering, and too much desire is dangerous while too little will prevent you from accomplishing anything. Suffering is the behind of the scenes of desire that most people don’t see until they want something enough. There is an infinitum of things that you could desire, so pick carefully what you want. Too be weary of what is your genuine desires and otherwise society exporting its desires onto you.
Remember that desire and lust never advertise their downsides. This is ultimately the greatest illusion, that what you want is nice to want and uninteresting to achieve.
For all its vices, desire is incredibly important. Try accomplishing something without first wanting anything. The poor person desires lots and the rich has the luxury to want nothing.
